Info Overload-What Not To Learn…

Just about everyday there seems to be some new app or technology to help you run your business more efficiently.

Some to increase productivity.

Some to help get your business found online.

Some to help you save time and money..

But do you need that shiny new digital miracle that will change the world as we know it?

If your not sure if it’s right for you I have found I get the answer by asking these 3 questions.

Will this technology help increase business or are you just doing because everyone else is:

Everyone seems to be on Facebook, everyone has a tweet or two or they are pinning pictures at 3a.m. on the up and coming Pinterest network.

I think it would be advisable before you start a new social media or technology that you have specific goals to why you are there and a way to monitor those actions.

I mean are you able to connect with your type of prospect on social media.

Or are you able to connect with your ideal prospect on a certain social media?

A good example of this would be facebook (of course) you are looking at a very broad market and could probably establish the right connections there for a network marketing business.

But before you jump into twitter or pinterest you need to realize that your selection will be a lot more streamlined so is it worth it?

Does the activity or technology fill a specific need for your business or is it just the new fad??

I had to ask myself this one about Pinterest.

I mean I like it and a lot of people recommend it but where is that effort going? I haven’t seen any traffic from it and it’s not like people are rushing to follow me or I have tons of messages because there is really no way to really communicate with someone there.

I think until they do I don’t really see the potential of growing a network marketing business using that platform.

The point I am try to make is make sure that you are deriving some benefit from your efforts. I mean that cute puppy maybe fun to repin and share but cute don’t pay the bills.

How much does it cost?

You know not only in money but it in time? What is the learning curve?  That can be expensive in costing you precious marketing and connecting time for building your business so you need to weigh that factor.

Now talking about the dollars and cents how will that affect you? Are there monthly fee’s,upsells, extra cost.

I think it’s smart to find out what exactly you get for your money and then figure out if this is a good fit for your network marketing business.

Get clear about how you use technology:

New technology and shiny stuff  can be really cool but you have to be careful. Even if it’s free you have to look at your overall goals for your network marketing business and decide if it’s worth the time, money and effort required to make it work.

By taking time to evaluate that you will save yourself a lot of wasted effort in the future.

  1. I totally agree that it can be a total time-waster to try to keep up with absolutely everything that’s going on or being offered on the internet ~ really, there’s more every day and you’re never going to know it all.

My criterion has always been ~ is this where my goddesses are?

To put it in marketing terms, is this where my market is?

I’ve had quite a bit of traffic from Pinterest, but that’s because my blog is very female-oriented and I talk about everything from home businesses to housekeeping.
And since the current stats say that 80% of Pinterest users are women, it makes sense for me to be there.

For a blog aimed at network marketing, it probably wouldn’t work quite so well and your time is better spent creating awesome-sauce content or building relationships on Facebook.

    • Hello Jacqueline I couldn’t agree more with that. Yes if you break down the demographics the businesses and people doing the best on Pinterest are female and its usually fashion and shopping oriented businesses that are crushing it. So while I will keep an eye on it I will work on my content level and facebook.

  2. Excellent point Steve. Sometimes these new websites and social networks can be a distracting time sucker. It’s ok to experiment with them…if you’re already having success in what you’re doing. If you haven’t yet mastered a marketing strategy, then I would stay away from new sites. It’s not productive to be jumping and jumping around to every new site. Thanks for sharing.
