Write headlines that stick and write copy that people remember and like and you can pretty much write your own check.
More than one big online marketer has stressed the importance of good copy and the need to write headlines that work.
Of course the 2 that come to mind first are Mike Dillard and Yanik Silver. Both of these gentlemen have profited heavily from writing good copy and have also profited teaching others how to write headlines and good copy.
Someone else who comes to mind but is known more of a personal development guru than an internet marketer and good copywriter is Joe Vitale.
Even though long known as an “Law Of Attraction” expert he is very good at marketing online and how to write headlines that work.
He actually has courses on that as well.
Well I think we have got a good foundation for the importance of it now let’s get into the heart of how to write headlines shall we?
We have 8 so I will not try to cover them all in this post so I can give proper attention to them I will cover 4 today and get the other 4 tomorrow.
Ok lets get started.
1. Direct Headline:
Direct headlines state the selling proposition directly no puns or roundabouts. ”Slick Blue Widgets-30% Off” would be a good example here. These are great to announce sales or deals that can be offered or are offering.
2. Indirect Headlines:
The indirect headline makes it point in the roundabout way. It arouse curiosity and the curiosity it arouses are answered in the body copy. A great example of this was by Darren Rowse of Copy Blogger and a mini course he had on how to write headlines. The title was “Read This Or The Cat Get’s It”. After you read it he revealed that what he was doing was using an example of the indirect headline. A little extreme and not recommended but it got the point across very well.
3. News Headlines:
If you have news about your product or business announce it in the headline. This can be an introduction of a new product or a change to an old one. These are great for using in conjunction with current events and putting your twist on them.
Also when you write headlines for blogging and articles these are great for SEO by using your keywords in them.
4. How To Headlines
These are probably the most widely use and the most effective with over 7,000 books with “How To” written in the title gives a you a strong argument for the effectiveness. It has been said many times if you use “How To” in a headline it’s hard to write a bad ad or content. When you write headlines like this you are promising an add of solid information and solutions to problems. While these are effective I would be careful how I used them word spreads fast on the internet so don’t be known as the guy that doesn’t really know “How To” do anything but maybe write headlines.
Well I hope these 1st 4 have helped on to write headlines. I will continue with the next 4 tomorrow and until then thanks for reading.
